I recently received an email requesting a specific date for their wedding. I wanted to share with all of you how easy it is to be scammed even in this industry. Here are images of the email between a "potential client" and myself. Once you read over it I will explain a few things. I am throwing this blog post together before running off to church but I would hat to see others get scammed.
Now a few things hit a red flag with me
1. They were interested in immediate payment
2. They have never seen my work
3. They were not releasing any wedding details
4. They detailed specifics of haw many will be attending.
Ok so I never take payment until I have met the couple and signed a contract. I have never met a couple who wasn't interested in seeing the photographers work. Details for the wedding are important because it determines if I have to travel and other minor details. Who honestly really knows how many people really know how many people exactly will be at the wedding until they received RSVP's back or its a small wedding.
Never book a wedding or take any type of payment from someone who you know nothing about and they know nothing about you. Its too easy in todays world to get scammed.
I posted this on my personal page and here was one of the replies... a link. Check it out for yourself. http://petapixel.com/2012/08/15/beware-craigslist-scammers-hunting-for-gullible-wedding-photographers/
Almost word for word. Be careful on what info you give out.
How this helps someone!!
